The California Endowment Prenatal Care for Immigrant Women Project
Transit ad, 2000
In 2000, health, welfare and immigration reforms had left pregnant immigrant women in California fearful and reluctant to enroll in Medi-Cal, resulting in reductions of the use of prenatal care services by immigrant families. The risks of compromising one’s immigration status were so serious that for many women they were outweighing the benefits of getting care. Using transit and radio in English and Spanish, PMC created a positive campaign about the benefits of prenatal care; the availability of Medi-Cal and other coverage; and the current and accurate impact of applying for and receiving Medi-Cal for prenatal care on immigration status.
